MANILA, Philippines – The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is set to premiere an exciting new television series that spotlights Thomasian women's strength and grace. Produced by third-year Communication students from the Faculty of Arts and Letters, Queen of the Arch is a three-episode pageant competition that celebrates intelligence, advocacy, and empowerment. Under the expert guidance of Asst. Prof. Faye M. Abugan, MA, a seasoned media professional, this student-led production is a testament to the creativity and skill nurtured within UST’s TV Production course.
Airing in collaboration with Tiger Media Network, the show will premiere its first episode on May 2, 2025, with subsequent episodes on May 9 and May 16, 2025, broadcast live via the official UST Tiger TV Facebook page. With a potential audience of 35,000 Thomasians, Queen of the Arch seeks to champion the empowered Thomasian woman while showcasing the talents of UST’s communication students.
The show’s supervising producer, Allyana Hernandez, drew inspiration from her lifelong exposure to pageantry and modeling. “Growing up in a family that has been involved in pageantry, I witnessed how these competitions empower women to showcase their strengths,” Hernandez shared. The series title reflects this vision, with the Arch of the Centuries—a historic campus landmark—symbolizing every Thomasian woman's journey toward growth, resilience, and success.
Beyond the glitz and glamour, Queen of the Arch aims to delve deeper into the values of strength, wisdom, and leadership. The candidates will face challenges to test their creativity and grace under pressure, blending traditional pageant segments like runway walks and Q&A portions with modern, thought-provoking elements. According to head writer Ivan Aguinaldo, the show’s mission is to celebrate womanhood and creative expression while upholding the university’s three core values: commitment, competence, and compassion.
The production is spearheaded by Middle Child Media, a student-led production house founded in 2023, known for its award-winning work in BroadQuest 2023. With a focus on variety, visibility, and vision, Middle Child Media is committed to creating diverse, representative, and forward-thinking content. Through Queen of the Arch, they aim to bring purposeful programming to life, inspiring the Thomasian community to pursue their passions and embrace their potential.
