PLDT's wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and its value mobile brand TNT continue to lead the ongoing SIM Registration with 44.5 million of their declared 66 million subscriber base already registered as of May 3.
This translates to 67 percent of Smart and TNT’s subscribers and represents more than 80 percent of the wireless revenues of the PLDT Group.
According to official SIM Registration update from the National Telecommunications Commission as of May 3, Globe had registered 43.4 million subscribers or only 50 percent of their declared 86.7 million total base, while DITO had registered 6.2 million subscribers or just 41.9 percent of their declared 14.9 million total base
Further strengthening SIM Registration initiatives
To keep their pace, Smart and TNT are looking to maximize the government's extension of the SIM Registration deadline by further enhancing the registration experience of their subscribers through various online and on-site channels.
"We will continue to strengthen our SIM Registration initiatives by making sure our customers have the best, most convenient, and most rewarding experience when they register, that we remain accessible both online and on-site, especially in far-flung areas, and that we have compelling on-ground and above-the-line communications throughout this campaign," said Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group - Individual at Smart.
Flores said that Smart continues to enhance its online SIM registration portal (http://www.smart.com.ph/simreg) and that the company is also looking to launch new online channels through which customers can register their SIMs.
Leader for online and on-site accessibility
"We must make sure we are the leader in terms of accessibility, both for online and on-site," Flores said, noting that Smart, in coordination with local government units, has continuously rolled out thousands of SIM Registration booths across the country, assisting seniors, persons with disabilities and users of non-data phones.
Flores also highlighted Smart's recent videos aiming to educate customers about the consequences of failing to register their SIMs.
"We have made these videos so that they are easy to understand by our target mass market and used TNT as the lead brand for the initiative," Flores said.
"Rest assured that we will take advantage of the extension that has been provided to us, and we will work even harder during this final stretch to maintain our leadership in SIM registration," he added.
All SIM users are required to register their SIMs, according to Republic Act No. 11934 or the Subscriber Identity Module Registration Act.
