Grab, PDEA renew its commitment to promote a drug-free community

December 2020, MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The proliferation of illegal drugs in the country remains a key socio-economic issue for many Filipinos; with the rise of delivery services, ill-meaning individuals are becoming more brazen and creative in the way they transport illegal drugs. As a tech platform connecting millions of Filipinos, Grab is doubling down on its zero-tolerance policy on illegal substances and reinforces its commitment to promote a drug-free community by continuing its longstanding partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Continuing to build on its partnership last 2017, Grab and PDEA will work together to interdict and prevent the delivery and transport of packages containing illegal drugs as well as controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPEC) on the Grab platform. Likewise, Grab  - through its wide network of drivers and delivery-partners, will help identify and report timely intelligence information to PDEA to aid in the agency’s anti-drug operations. Furthermore, Grab will continue to double down on its zero-tolerance policy on illegal drugs by ensuring that all Grab drivers and delivery partners are not users or peddlers of illegal drugs or CPECs.

In the coming weeks, Grab will conduct online training for its thousands of drivers and delivery-partners to help them identify and handle parcels which are suspected to contain illegal drugs, and further educate them on key matters relevant to the implementation of RA 9165 - also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Additionally, Grab will continue to require incoming drivers and delivery-partners to undergo drug tests before they get onboarded on the platform while existing drivers and delivery-partners on the Grab platform will be randomly tested in accordance with its zero-drug tolerance policy.

Grab Philippines will continue to work closely with PDEA to help the agency better monitor any suspected illegal drug operations that may occur through the Grab platform.

“The safety of our communities remains core in everything we do in Grab. As we continue to scale our efforts to better serve our kababayans, we will continue to double down on our commitment to combat illegal drugs. With PDEA’s expertise and resources, coupled with Grab’s technology and vast network of drivers and delivery partners, we are confident that we are taking the right steps toward a safer, drug-free country,” says Grab Philippines Country Head Grace Vera Cruz.
